i need to know what type of western horse is good in show and doesnt spook

I'm looking into buying a horse for hunter/jumpers. I do like Thoroughbreds alot but it appears that every TB that I see on dreamhorse or equine.com are x-race horses. I'm really not interested in a retired race horse because I've been down that route before. But I suppose my question is, are all TB's X-race horses?
on animaplanet, it had like 20 contestants enter their horses in a show jumping contest, and it was for teenage boys and girls. i cant remember the name of it, but i know that a girl won with a black horse.
