I'm a senior in high school doing an exhibition along the lines of a question, "Will knowing the physics of Barrel Racing improve the sport" I need to find as many sites as possible pertaining to anything even closely related to this question. PLEASE any help is welcomed, I also need to do a science experiment and a math component, but those are less of a worry then just finding the basics to write my paper. Thanks.
Okay, so the Senior project at my school is a big deal, if you dont do one or if you fail then you cannot graduate. It has to challenge you and benefit the community, and you have to put a lot of hours into it.
So I have been thinking, I had an idea of putting together a horse show. The entry fees and maybe some concession stand money would be donated to a good cause (havent exactly figured out which cause yet). Its probably just going to be a small, local event.
So what are some things I should take into consideration? I already think I am going to hold it at the local fairgrounds. But I havent gone to a lot of horse shows so I would appreciate your help brainstorming here. Like....
1) Should all the contestants have a current coggins report? Any other thing like up to date shots etc?
2) what should I make the entry fee be? I want enough money to donate, but I dont want it to be so expensive no one will come!
3) What classes should I have? I think it should be pretty general so a lot of people will come. Maybe dressage, low jumping, and then also have WP and barrels. What do you think would attract a lot of people to enter?
4) What age groups? All? do I have to have seperate classes for 18 and younger, and seperate classes for 18+?
5) Where and how would I find judges to judge the classes? How much would they charge?
6) any other variables that I should take into account?
7) do you think this is a good or bad idea? If you think its bad, do you have any other ideas?
Thanks, and you dont have to answer all of these, even if you only think you can help with one of them, please go ahead and answer.
Thoughts and additional brainstorming is appreciated!
sent you an email, Charm. =]
i need to find one to buy or trade a ropin saddle for one
I've been told they are for hunting, but I saw people wearing them at a show I went to recently. What are they for?
Well my horse has heaves and I really am needing to move barns because of it not providing what is better for her. She goes into a stall at night in an indoor arena(there's a barn aisle in between but still you can tell dust gets in there a lot), and into a dirt paddock during the day with 3 other horses. The hayisn'tt that great of quality as it used to be and she doesn't have access to grass. So I am really trying to convince my parents to move even though they really don't want to but I have gotten my mom to at least let me go look at a barn and it didn't really fit what I need so she agreed to look at another one and I am hoping to do that this week. I have found 3 barns that I am interested in at the moment. I will list what they have told me about their places and I just want to see what you guys have to say about it. Remember, my horse has copd/heaves so I really am just looking for the best I can get for her. I know that I can't officially decide without looking at them yet but I still want to see what your opinions are when I take a look. Also if you have any advice/tips for when looking at a barn, please give me a shout about those too. Anyway, here are the barns:
Barn #1 - Cisco Stables
This is what it basically says on their ad that is on a website for barns in my area:
Small private barn two miles to **** **** Park(a park that has lots of trails close to where I live and the barn I currently am boarding at is in the park so I looking at places in the area) has available box stalls, daily turn out and lots of pasture.
I called this barn and the lady told me a few things. I will try to remember all that she said. Well, they got about 5-7 horses on the property(i forget exactly) and it's only indoor board. It's $250 a month. They go in a pasture during the day and a stall at night. I think in the summer they might stay out but I am not sure. This is so far my #1 place I am thinking about but I am not sure yet. She feeds small square bales and they are some kind of alfalfa, I'll have to ask again cause I forget but I think it might have timothy with it but like I said, I forget haha. She also feeds grass hay to one of her horses that needs it so I can also put my horse on that. The horse's are just on grass in the pasture during the summer months so my horse would have access to that which is something I would really like. They don't have any arenas, just a few paddocks I can ride in if I want and then the miles of trails close by. Which is what I am fine with. I just won't be riding as much in winter unless I go to some indoor arena sometimes but I don't really care lol. Anyways, they sound like they actually take care of their horses good so I got some hopes on this place. They only have one stall left available so they won't be accepting anymore after that.
Barn #2
I found it on the internet and the lady was actually one that was interested in my saddle a while back that I had for sale so I have talked to her before. This is what she says of her place in an e-mail:
Hi
I am 2 miles west of ******(the town I am moving to which is good as that means this barn is pretty close and I can maybe even ride my bike there when I do move), 4 miles south of the park.
I feed both squares and rounds..depending on quality I can get. Last year I got the most beautiful timothy hay bales(round) that my horse that has heaves never coughed all winter. I do have grass from my own hayfield small squares..so that is what I feed barn horses or horses not with my herd.
My own old horse also has heaves so I'm concious of it.
My paddocks are pasture ..depending on how good the year and how many horses in them. The big herd will be put into the hay field pasture when it dries up in fall to graze for a month or so but they are mainly on hay and grain.
And another e-mail I got:
I do have an outdoor riding arena..its not perfect or huge, this rain has made it challenging to use it as the weeds have taken over everywhere and its too wet to do much about it.
I have a tack room, which is heated enough to keep the water from freezing up in the barn.
I have currently 10 horses here on the property, anticipate 3 to be sold before winter or to be gone.I have 5 paddocks, 2 shelter areas and a barn with 4 box & 1 standing stall.
You could keep your gear in the tack room.
Ok, She charges $200 for outdoor and I plan to do outdoor board if I do go there. One thing that sort of bugs me though is that she doesn't have too much grass and I wonder if she would give my horse this medicine stuff I have her on. It's a liquid kind that I put on top of her feed. So if I did indoor board at barn #1, at least that lady could do it but for outdoor at this place, it might be harder unless this lady will take my horse in to give her that and then put her back out... I also wonder for her horse that has heaves if it got it at her place or when she bought it already. I'll have to find out som
Thanks, yeah sadly I can't find any barns in the area with just pasture turnout. If I do find one, I'd totally move to it.
Also, I only get out to the barn 2-3 times a week so I won't be out everyday to see her. When I move, I'll hopefully be able to ride my bike over to see her and so go out like everyday pretty much.
thanks SLA, yeah I am really downed about her having it. I always get worried easily over it. I hate it. I have even thought of selling her cause of that but I just can't bear to and I doubt anyone would really buy her.
I also will really look at the ventilation in the barn and all that kind of stuff
I also just found another barn that I might call and see what they say. I don't know anything about it yet though. But I will try to find one with just pasture turnout 24/7.
