I am working with a young horse and have brokin him in but he's still very green. We were bareback riding together the other day and he had a bucking fit when my dog ran alongside us... I stayed on but my tailbone slammed into his backbone and now 4 days on I'm still out of action OUCH cant sit down at all must stand or lay down! Feeling like a cripple any other amusing stories for me while I sit on my side waiting for the pain to ease...so hope it does soon...keen for another ride and crippling! Partner who is totally unhorsey asks if I will use my saddle next time hehe (he might have a point)
Thanks for all your answers...so funny..except for Ron Sr get a life hey I've got my horse broken in mate I dont need a trainer...just a cushion for my... havnt you ever been hurt riding i thought it was normal! Most people who I know who've workedwith/broken horses are broken by the end of their life it all part of the joy buddy and I'm lovin it! How do I choose...
If anyone out there has an appaloosa, and a saddle with her/him, could you plz tell me what gullet size you have. My Appy isnt fat, but it's back is broad, so does that mean i get a wide or a medium gullet for her??? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi, I jump in my lessons, but when I'm not having a lesson I am not allowed to jump unless I am supervised by my coach. So, i'm only allowed to do pole work. I was wondering what some fantastic exercises for pole work are? My horse is 15.2hh and has a medium stride. I've got about 20 poles to work with! Think you can help? Anything like...grids, gymnastics, bending lines, courses, ect. thank you! ohh if you have any books you reccomend it would be very much appreciated! I love the book "101 Jumping Exercises For Horse & Rider" by linda allen!! (here comes christmas, lol). thanks
I'm going to get a 13ish year old bay tb mare who is pregnant and due on or around the 1st of May, next year. I remember a girl I use to ride with who bought a pregant mare without knowing she was pregnant and I remember her loping her and such, not very much after she found out she was pregnant but before she loped her like your would ride and lope a normal horse.
So if the foal is due on May Day or around then should I be able to lope her a little bit or should I not at all? I won't be jumping her or anything but you know just short lopes. I should be geting her very soon.
And how long can I ride her until I should stop riding her?
Would it be cheaper/easier/safer to do it by boat? I want to move to the UK once I get out of school and I am definitely not selling my boy. He's probably around 1700 lbs. Will he need to be quarantined for a certain number of weeks or months beforehand? Anything else I haven't thought of?
