i've seen horses execute demanding dressage maneuvers with not even a head collar on and international show jumpers ride in a hackamore. so why pray tell are there are more gadgets and implements of equine misery ever more cheaply available on the market? i've seen a six year old ride a 12.2hh welsh sec A in a 4 ring dutch gag ... for a cross poll class . i ride ex-race horses in an easytreck bitless . and im a crap rider!!!!
I've recently gotten a horse to find that she hasn't seen the farrier and needs to soon. One of her front hooves has a part in the front longer than the rest and all of her hooves' surfaces are uneven. Part of her back hoof is curled up, not all of it but the top layer. She has an appointment with the farrier in a few days, but I was just wondering if it hurt or bothered her. She runs fine, but I'm afraid to ride her in case it hurts her somehow. She is not shod, but she is grazing in the pasture on soft dirt.
How far forward are you supposed to go?
I see some people go really far down onto the horse's neck, and it makes me wonder if I'm doing it wrong or not. xD
