I'm an amputee. I show 3rd level dressage and i've done training level eventing. I'm the ONLY rider at my barn thats disabled in any way. Some of the people at my barn treat me badly. They'll say mean things about me and my horse. They say that my horse is too headstrong for me even though he and I work together as a team. He has his moments but I cant remember the last time i've fallen off (He's a sporthorse so moments are expected). I really love where I board my horse and its close to where my trainer is. But some of the people there will make fun of the way I walk and tell me I should quit riding. I dont want to leave, but a lot of people are being so rude and immature. I tried talking to the barn manager but she hasn't done anything about it. Any suggestions?
So my instructor said Sinatra is more than likely getting an "abscess" on his right hind. He can't trot right now, and obviously can't be ridden. He can put weight on the leg, but he is still favoring it. Don't worry, the vet is coming out. Anyway, what is this "abscess" my instructor is speaking of? I'm not a horse owner, so I don't know everything about horse health. I hope Sinatra is gonna be okay :( Thanks! By the way, Sinatra is 24.
Say you have two identical horses standing side by side. One has worms, the other is 7 months pregnant. How could you tell which one is which? In other words, what are some traits that a wormy horse has, that a pregnant horse doesn't, and vice-versa? Reason I'm asking is because I have a mare who could either be pregnant, or have worms (she had worms a while ago, then came up clear). She's a bit underweight because my gelding eats most of the hay (trying to get weight on her from grain now), but otherwise is healthy (shiny coat, sheds fine, no tail rubbing). Ultrasound didn't find anything (even though she was 104 days at the absolute least), but she is getting much bigger. She is definitely more "sleepy" than usual, but I've known pregnant horses to be like that also. Fennec Fox:: Okay, you're not allowed to criticize me until you know the full story, I think that's kind of a rule of life, lol She wouldn't be 7 months along, I was just using that as an example. She was turned out with a miniature horse colt, who was not "dropping", so we could not get him gelded. I had no means of separating them. We thought he was much too young and small to breed her, but he started acting like a stud later, and one day our neighbors said they saw him mounting her. They said he couldn't reach, but we realized he would eventually get to her, if he hasn't already, so we opted for the surgery before he was able to drop. We were lucky enough to find a really nice vet that would do it cheaply, but before we were quoted about $2000 to get a $400 mini gelded. I am not just an irresponsible owner that turns my mare out with random stallions, so please think before you judge. Yes, she is on a regular deworming program. My instructor said to deworm her again with a wormer my vet recommended, then get another fecal test (this last one said she "might" have strongids...not sure...I don't know what that is supposed to mean!), and if she doesn't come up clean, then put her on a daily dewormer. She had a horse just like mine, who had pinworms all through a regular deworming program.
I am probably going to start feeding rice bran to Tango to keep up his weight this winter. I have heard good things about it. I know nothing about rice bran. Is there different types? If so, which is the best types? Also, how much should I feed Tango? He's a 14.1 hand Quarab, weighs approx. 700 pounds and have a 69' inch blanket size.
I texted the stable manger asking if hank is gone she said 'No hank kinda retired he has bad arthritis and i dont want to sell him and worry he isnt getting his medicene so he is not for sale anymore' I said 'Ok, wow poor Hankie Pankie!!!! Where does he have it?' she said 'rump and right rear hip' I am still WOWed by this, never really expected it! Well I decided it would be best for hank to keep boarding him there because she knows better about how to help him ALOT better then I do. Sooo wow LOL! Anything i can do with him?? I don't want 2 ride him, but i hate such a good horse is getting so old and i can't do alot with him. What do I do with him? I haven't seen him in awhile I love you Hank :)
