One of the most famous stallions in the world of show jumping died this weekend in Italy just as he was being walked from the ring after finishing a four fault round. Hickstead, who carried Eric Lamaze to victory at the 2008 Olympics, two Pan American Games medals  and the $1M CN International twice and was honored with the Best Horse Award in the 2010 World Show Jumping Championship Individual Final-Four Ride-Off under four different riders collapsed was taken from the ring in a equine ambulance. The competition was stopped and competitors came into the ring for a minute of silence and tributes to this great horse who has become a legend in show jumping. In an Toronto Sun article FEI president  Princess Haya added, "This is a terrible loss, but Hickstead truly will never be forgotten. We were very lucky to have known him."
