The testicles usually arrive in the scrotum by the tenth month after birth, but occasionally they are not fully down until the twelfth or fifteenth month. After 15 months of age, colts are considered cryptorchids if the testes (one or both) have not descended. It would be advisable to have a veterinarian come out and determine if the testicles have descended and what action should be taken if they have not. Congenital cryptorchid stallions should not be considered for breeding.
