Horse being abandon because their owners could not afford to feed them have been making headlines in newspapers and magazines for a while now. Oregon's Statesman Journal website published a story this morning about abandonment cases happening in their area. The article suggests that it costs about $250 per month to care for a horse. I think that cost is a fair estimate, depending on where you live. You probably won't find boarding for much less. Certainly horse rescue operations are feeling the strain as their stables and pastures are filled to capacity. In other parts of the country, it's rumored that people are waking up to find extra horses in their pastures. I personally have not heard of this happening near my location. Do you know of a horse abandonment near you? What do you think is a solution to this problem? Leave your comments below.
