An Organizational Meeting for the All Volunteer Mounted Patrol Unit has been scheduled for 6 PM Wednesday March 12, 2008. Several area horsemen and non-riding people interested in horseback riding have expressed an interest forming an All-Volunteer Mounted Patrol Unit for the Buffalo Trace Area. This would include Bracken, Fleming, Lewis, Mason, and Robertson counties.

The mission of the Mounted Patrol would be to support fellowship along with equestrian activities, horsemanship and to assist community organizations if requested.

Areas of interest to be discussed will include the following items, with plenty of time for Citizen and Government input. · Mounted Search and Rescue Assistance MSAR · Area Goodwill Ambassadors, Tourism · Festival and Parade Assistance, · Local Trail Riding, Riding With A Purpose · Equine Demonstration Teams, For Parades and Fairs · Training Requirements For New Members · Sensitivity Training, Making Your Horse Safer · Uniforms and Public Image Issues · Minimum Age Requirements · Liability And Rider Responsibilities · Funding and Financial Assistance

The agenda for the meeting will be:

6:00 pm -What is a Mounted Patrol Unit and Why Do We Need One.
6:30 pm – Patrol Training and Community Programs Available to Members.
7:00 pm – Sponsorship Commitments Announced (Government Agencies/Private Sector Commitments)
7:30 pm – Committees formed to meet immediately and take the Patrol Unit to the next level.
8:00pm – Introduction of Committee Results.
8:30pm – Post Meeting Networking for New Members and Media Interview Session.

Note: Mounted Patrols have been in operation all over the United States with great results and positive community support for many years. The Unit is not reinventing the horseshoe, so all interested people attending will be given an opportunity to make a difference and participate right out of the gate.

The Unit has already received a commitment from a large Mason County farm to provide a permanent 2-acre Sensitivity Training Area. The area will include space for numerous permanently installed training obstacles and an easy access staging area for the Mounted Patrol.
