When I was a kid, (yes, back in the dark ages before computers, cellphones and designer coffee) my sister and I played with model horses. Our favorites, and most coveted were Breyer models.

We made blankets and wraps from scrap fabric, custom painted them and built little barns of cardboard. The pièce de résistance was a wooden barn my father built for my sister, to house a whole herd of model horses. Breyer models are a favorite of many collectors, and are easier to find than they were back when I was a kid. Every year, Breyer designs several models and ornaments with a holiday theme. Jeanne Grunert, About.com Contributing Writer shares the history of these beautiful Breyer Collectible Holiday Horse Ornaments.
