Labeled bones of the Horse's hoof

The coffin bone is the third phalanx or bottom most bone in the leg. The function of the coffin bone is to bear weight, provide for the attachment of the deep digital flexor tendon, and protect blood vessels and nerves. It is encased by the hoof and is very porous with blood vessels passing into and out of the pores.
