As a teenager, Giffords loved to spend time at the stable, and continued to ride as an adult. Giffords was one of a dozen people shot in a Tucson, Arizona parking lot by a young man now deemed 'mentally ill'. After emergency surgery, neurosurgeons are cautiously optimistic.
