Decker Pack Saddle

Traditional pack saddles come in two basic styles - the crossbuck and the decker. The decker is a more recent development where the bars are joined by two steel hoops. It is normally a center fire-rigged, single cinch saddle with a half-breed (heavy canvas or poly cover over the saddle with a wooden bar at its bottom). The half-breed provides extra padding, and those made of poly material seem to last longer and do not stain as easy as canvas. A decker is best suited for sling loads where the load is mantied.
