I'm always excited to see the good work done by the folks at Riders4Helmets as they continue to spread the word about the importance of wearing helmets.
Over the last several weeks, their website has been featuring stories written by people who's heads have been saved by helmets. I myself have been in situations where I am thankful to have been wearing a helmet, and have suffered a concussion as a result of a fall from a horse when I wasn't wearing a helmet (I don't think I've been on a horse without one since). A helmet won't make you bullet proof. There are still lots of ways to be hurt or even killed by a horse. But wearing a helmet protects one part of the body that is very difficult to fix, and takes a long time to mend if it's injured-your head. A while back I interviewed Lyndsey White, one of the founders of Riders4Helmets, and the driving force behind the campaign to increase awareness of the importance of wearing riding helmets in Why You Should Wear a Helmet. Lyndsey shared some interesting facts and statistics about helmet use and why every rider should "strap one on".
