I have to admit, January 1st doesn't feel like the New Year to me.

Different cultures celebrate the new year at different times and I rather like the idea of celebrating in mid-April as Buddhists do. That's about the time when the snow is gone, the weather starts feeling warmer and the horse shows and trail rides start. But when it comes to setting goals and making plans, any day is a good day.

And it's a great time to look back at 2010. This past year I focused on taking dressage lessons. I didn't compete, but went with my daughter to several horse trials where she rode her own horse Sampler and my Trillium. I was a volunteer for the 2010 Canadian Distance Riding Championships which was a qualifying event for the 2010 WEG. It was a very exciting week-long event with competitors from around the globe.

Trillium has been telling me for sometime that she does not like trail riding. So my goals this year include showing dressage again, to purchase western tack so I can show western pleasure in a few local fall fairs and to continue clicker training her. My goal with the clicker training is to have her learn to load herself on our trailer. I also have a secret wish for a large Arabian to trail ride. My dream is to find one about 15.3 hands with lots of bone. But this may have to be a longer term goal as I work on some financial goals too!

What were the highlights of 2010 for you? Do you have plans for the year ahead? Leave your comments below.
