Horse Gestation

My Stallion lunges; clips, baths, lifts feet for farrier, will do practically anything you want of him, I can touch him anywhere, he's not spooky and about a 2 on a scale of 1 - 10 Temperament. He's an APHA 17 month old. He's like a big dog, but he respects personal space. I want to begin working him under saddle, but slowly. Does anyone have any advice or tips. He loves water and is VERY forward over logs/poles. Thanks! Also, any tips for boarding? Anything I should know??
